Ranunculus and Anemone Care Instructions

Thank you for buying our anemone and/or ranunuculus corms! Here are a few growing tips to help you get started.

  1. Corms can be stored in a cool, dry place until ready for growing. We suggest pre-sprouting your corms (starting the growing process) at the start of January, for blooms in March-April.

  2. When you’re ready to go, carefully remove your corms from their packaging and submerge in water for at least 12 hours (ranuncs) or 24 hours (anemones) to hydrate before planting. They should have doubled in size by this point - this shows they’re fully hydrated and ready to go!

  3. Place your corms in moist, multi-purpose compost, and cover with more compost. We recommend ensuring your compost is damp before the corms are placed in, rather than watering after planting, to avoid overly damp conditions that can lead to rot. They can be planted in individual pots, but if you’re growing a good number then you may find lining them up in trays to be a more efficient (and just as effective!) method.

  4. Keep your compost and corms moist, but not wet, for ideal growing conditions. They prefer to be cool over warm.

  5. Once the first shoots and roots have emerged you will need to start watering, if you haven’t already. Avoid letting them dry out at this stage, as this has a significant impact on growth.

  6. Once your plants have leaves and roots, they’re ready to be planted out. Keep them protected from frosts and avoid drying out and waterlogging.
